GLOBAL LEADERSHIP MEETING
Overview
For the 14th time in a row we organized the Global Leadership Meeting of an international pharmaceutical giant. This year, the newly-appointed CEO invited his 260 top managers to a multi-day meeting at the recently opened Bürgenstock Resort. The centerpiece of the event was the new corporate culture.
Challenge
“Inspired, curious and unbossed” – the new corporate culture was to be a recurring theme, a thread running through the event and the guest experience, and reflected in the setting. Since the meeting venue was not designed for such large, complex events, we had to resort to unconventional solutions: we transformed the two indoor tennis courts and the outdoor tennis court into a conference-friendly, multifunctional space. In line with the new corporate culture, the content was deliberately decentralized and prepared by various stakeholders. These different needs had to be interwoven and turned into a harmoniously staged experience.
Solution
Not only did we have to overcome logistical and structural constraints (construction of a crane and installation of a lift for materials weighing over 100 tonnes), we also had to transform the tennis courts to create a laidback lounge-type atmosphere. Varying items of furniture and seating arrangements – from lounge chairs to bistro seating to bar stools – combined to give everyone a good view of the round stage in the middle of the room. Moreover, the setup mirrored the new corporate culture: eye-to-eye, on an equal footing with the participants. In one corner, we also created a TED stage for the more formal presentations. The poor acoustics presented another challenge that we worked hard to overcome. The room had to be rebuilt several times a day to enable a 50-piece orchestra to play in the same room during an interactive session, to change the layout for a digital experience in small groups with over 100 laptops, and for panel discussions, classic lecture-type presentations and various workshops.
